Deutsch: Der Kreis führt das ihm gemäß vom Innenminister NRW mit Urkunde vom 26. Mai 1955 verliehene Wappen. Es zeigt in einem silbernen Schild einen blaugekrönten und blaubewehrten, zwiegeschwänzten roten Löwen, der sich mit der linken Pranke auf einen silbernen Schild mit schwarzem Balkenkreuz stützt, mit der rechten ein goldenes Flammenschwert über seinem Haupte schwingt.

English: The arms were granted on May 26, 1955 to the Siegkreis and continued by the new district in 1970. The lion is the lion of the Counts of Berg, who owned the largest part of the district for many centuries.

Object history

Deutsch: Das ursprünglich dem Siegkreis genehmigte und dann vom Rhein-Sieg-Kreis übernommene Wappen erinnert durch die Farben und das Wappentier an die alte Landesherrschaft der Herzöge von Berg. Auf kurkölnische Anteile des Kreisgebietes verweist das Kreuz. Die Benediktinerabtei auf dem Siegburger Michaelsberg ist bildhaft durch das Flammenschwert des Erzengels Michael dargestellt.

English: The small shield is the arms of the diocese of Köln symbolises the fact that Königswinter and some smaller areas belonged to the State of Köln. The flaming sword is the symbol of St.Michael and represents the influential abbey in Siegburg, which existed from 1064-1803 and from 1914 onwards.
