  • On 6 September 1781, the American privateerCongress, under Captain Geddes, engaged HMS sloopSavage, under Captain Sterling, in a day-long battle some 10 leagues eastward of Charleston, South Carolina.Congress forcedSavage to strike her colors.Savage was recaptured by HMSSolebay before her prize crew could reach a safe American port.
