Fernando Rodríguez Trueba (born 18 January 1955),[1] known asFernando Trueba, is a Spanishfilmmaker,writer,producer and book editor.

Career

Between 1974 and 1979, Trueba worked as a film critic for Spain's leading daily newspaperEl País. In 1980, he founded the monthly film magazineCasablanca, which he edited and directed during its first two years. He is the author ofDiccionario (Planeta 1997, Plot 2004, Galaxia Guttenberg 2006) and the editor ofDiccionario del Jazz Latino (SGAE, 1998).

Accolades

Among other awards, he has won theGoya Award as Best Director three times and a Silver Bear forYear of Enlightment at the37th Berlin International Film Festival.[2]Miracle of Candeal won the Goya for Best Documentary, andChico and Rita won the Goya for Best Feature Animation. In 1994, Trueba accepted theOscar forBest Foreign Language Film on behalf of Spain forBelle Époque.[3] In 1999,The Girl of Your Dreams was nominated for theGolden Bear at the49th Berlin International Film Festival.[4] In 2011 he won the Award of the Hungarian National Student Jury forChico and Rita at the 7thFestival of European Animated Feature Films and TV Specials.[5]

As a music producer he has won two Grammy Awards and four Latin Grammy Awards.

Personal life

He is the elder brother ofDavid Trueba.[6] He is married to producerCristina Huete,[7] and he is the father of directorJonás Trueba.[8]
