Felipe Mesones Temperán (9 February 1936 – 15 December 2017) was an Argentinefootballright winger andcoach.
Born inBuenos Aires, Mesones spent the vast majority of his career in Spain, representingReal Murcia CF,Levante UD,CE L'Hospitalet andCE Europa, with all clubs competing in theSegunda División. In his native country he appeared forBoca Juniors,San Lorenzo de Almagro andClub Atlético Atlanta, and also had a stint atIndependiente Santa Fe in Colombia.
Mesones retired at the end of the1966–67 season while in service ofCatalonia-based Europa, eventually amassing totals of 124 games and 16 goals in the second division.
As a manager, Mesones worked in the SpanishLa Liga for nine campaigns, adding another 15 in the second tier.[1][2][3] On 27 April 1980, whilst at the helm ofUD Salamanca, he was involved in amatch fixing incident also involvingMálaga CF which resulted in a two-year ban for himself, intermediaryRaúl Castronovo and opposing playerJulio Orozco.[4][5]
In late January 2000, training with his clubGranada CF, the 64-year-old Mesones suffered aheart attack and was admitted tointensive care unit.[6] His last spell consisted of nine games withCartagonova FC, in theSegunda División B.[7]
Mesones died on 15 December 2017 at the age of 81 inMurcia, after a long battle with illness.[8]
