Fassa Association (Associazione Fassa), often referred simply asFassa, is a minorChristian-democratic[1]political party inTrentino,Italy. The party seeks to represent theLadin minority[1] in the Province and especially Ladins living inFassa Valley.

History

[edit]

Fassa was formed asFassa List (Lista Fassa) in August 2008 as a centre-right alternative to the centre-leftLadin Autonomist Union (UAL),[2] which used to garner a large majority of Ladin votes in Fassa Valley. Its first leader wasGino Fontana, mayor ofVigo di Fassa and, formerly, provincial councillor forDaisy Civic List, a centrist party aligned with the so-called "regionalist centre-left".[3] A year later, the List was institutionalised and became a fully fledged party under the current name.[2]

In the2008 provincial election, the party won 0.6% of the vote (26.6% in Fassa Valley).[4]

In March 2012,Elena Testor was elected president of the party andLuca Guglielmi secretary.[5] In September 2013,Riccardo Franceschetti, mayor ofMoena and leading member of the UAL, left his party to join Fassa.[6]

In the2013 provincial election, the party won 0.8% of the vote (31.9% in Fassa Valley).[7]

In the 2015 Fassa community election, the party prevailed over the UAL and Testor was electedProcuradora (President of the Fassa community).[8][9]

In the2016 Italian constitutional referendum, Fassa supported the No,[10] which won with 58% of the votes in the Fassa valley.[11]

In the2018 general election, Testor affiliated toForza Italia,[12] and was elected to theItalian Senate from the single-seat constituency ofPergine Valsugana.[13][14] In 2019Armando Mich was elected new party president, succeeding to Testor.[15]

The party confirmed its representation in the Provincial Council both in the2018 provincial election (1.0% of the vote and 38.9% in Fassa Valley) and the2023 provincial election (0.9% of the vote and 42.3% in Fassa Valley).
