FareFuturo (meaning "MakeFuture", FF) is aright-wingthink tank, which intend develop a newliberal conservative andsecular-minded right, on the model ofNicolas Sarkozy'sUMP,David Cameron'sConservatives andJosé María Aznar'sPP, who also participated in the foundation.[1]
The foundation was launched in February 2007 byGianfranco Fini, leader ofNational Alliance (AN), andAdolfo Urso, MP for the same party, at a convention that rallied 105 personalities of the culture, economy and arts sectors, including former Constitutional Court PresidentAnnibale Marini, TV personality and lawyerTina Lagostena Bassi, the rector of theMilan PolytechnicGiovanni Azzone, sociologistSabino Acquaviva, actorLuca Barbareschi, television hostRita Dalla Chiesa and operatic sopranoCecilia Gasdia.[2] According to the founders,FareFuturo hadn't the purpose to succeed AN, but enlarge under a European perspective the culture of the Italian right-wing, re-organizing it after the defeat of theHouse of Freedoms in the2006 election.
The think tankFareFuturo was officially founded on 15 May 2007 in Rome.[3] Also former Spanish PM José Aznar attended the foundative meeting,[4] expressing his desire to see AN join in theEuropean People's Party (EPP), the maincentre-right party in the European Union.[5] In September 2007, thanks to Aznar's pressure,FareFuturo attende the meeting of theCentre for European Studies, the EPP's think tank.[6]
In April 2009, a statement of political analystSofia Ventura about the TV showgirls (veline) involvement in Italian politics,[7] published on the web-magazine ofFareFuturo, caused polemics and criticisms also inside the same political area of the foundation,[8][9] especially about the presumed attitude of Fini's main allySilvio Berlusconi.[10] In November 2009,FareFuturo started a solid cooperation withFAES, the Aznar's foundation.
In 2010, during tensions inside the recently foundedThe People of Freedom (PdL) party between Berlusconi and Fine,FareFuturo sided with theFiniani, who finally left the party in February 2011 to foundFuture and Freedom (FLI), a liberal conservative party led by Fini. In March 2011, however, many members left the foundation and the web-magazine was closed. Fini resigned the presidency over the foundation in favour to Urso, who became the new president. Urso rapidly fell in disagreement with the now-centrist policy of Fini, who established theNew Pole for Italy, a coalition between FLI, theUnion of the Centre (UDC) andAPI. Instead to re-align the foundation to the PdL, Urso prosecuted a policy of distance between all the centre-right parties, claiming for a "popular constituent" for the creation of conservative party, who will had to represent the EPP in Italy. To represent this project, in April 2011 Urso created the foundationFareItalia (literally "MakeItaly"), that in 2013 joined in the national-conservative partyBrothers of Italy (FdI), led byGiorgia Meloni. In January 2018, Urso was selected by FdI candidate for theChamber of Deputies,[11] in prevision to the2018 election.
