Farbill (Irish:Fir Bhile)[1] is abarony in eastCounty Westmeath, inIreland. It was formed by 1672.[2] It is bordered byCounty Meath to the south and east and three other baronies:Fartullagh (to the south–west),Moyashel and Magheradernon (to the north–east) andDelvin (to the north). The largest centre of population in the barony is the town ofKinnegad.
Farbill has an area of 35,488.8 acres (143.618 km2).[2] TheM4 motorway passes to the south ofKinnegad connectingDublin withSligo and theM6 motorway fromGalway joins the M4 at Kinnegad. Severalregional roads radiate from Kinnegad. Those passing through Farbill are theR148 to Dublin and the R161 toNavan. To the north theR156 passes through Killucan linking theN3 nearClonee inCounty Meath to theN4 (nearMullingar).
A railway line carrying the national rail companyIarnród Éireann'sDublin toLongford commuter service andDublin toSligo intercity service.[3] also passes through the barony. TheRoyal Canal follows a similar route through Farbill connecting theRiver Liffey inDublin toLongford town.
