Mohd Fahmi bin Aliman (Jawi: محمد فهمى عليمن; born 1972)[1] is a Singaporean businessman, politician and former army colonel who served as Mayor ofSouth East District from 2020 to 2025. A member of the governingPeople's Action Party (PAP), he was theMember of Parliament (MP) representing theGeylang Serai division ofMarine Parade Group Representation Constituency (GRC) from 2020 to 2025.
Fahmi was born in 1972 inSingapore to a father who was a gas checker and a mother who was a cleaner, and has two siblings.[2]
He attended Jubilee Primary School andJurong Secondary School before graduating fromNgee Ann Polytechnic with adiploma.[2]
Fahmi subsequently went on to complete aBachelor of Engineering with honours degree at theUniversity of Liverpool.[2] He also has agraduate diploma from theNational University of Singapore in defence technological science.[2]
Fahmi is the football advisor forSingapore Premier League clubGeylang International.[citation needed]
After leaving theSingapore Army in 2019, Fahmi had a brief stint as the deputy chief executive ofMajlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS), before leaving to join theNational Trades Union Congress (NTUC) as Director of the Administration and Research Unit in March 2020.[citation needed]
Fahmi served in theSingapore Army for 26 years and attained the rank ofColonel.[3] He was deployed for six months toBlangpidie, Sumatra, Indonesia for theAceh Monitoring Mission in 2005, and six months inKabul, Afghanistan in 2012 as part of Singapore's contribution to theInternational Security Assistance Force (ISAF).[3][4] He was awardedPingat Penghargaan (Tentera) in 2014 andLong Service Medal (Military) in 2017.[5] In 2011, Fahmi served as the Parade Commander for National Day Parade. In 2018, Fahmi wasSingapore Armed Forces' (SAF) Mission Commander to the Humanitarian Aid to Laos.[6]
In 2019, Fahmi left the SAF.[citation needed]
Fahmi made his political debut in the2020 general election as part of a five-member PAP team contesting inMarine Parade GRC led by Speaker of the 13th ParliamentTan Chuan-Jin against theWorkers' Party which included formerNon-constituency Member of ParliamentYee Jenn Jong.[7][8] His running mates were Tan,Seah Kian Peng,Tan See Leng, andEdwin Tong.[7] On 11 July 2020, he was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) after the PAP team garnered 57.76% of the valid votes.[9] He was also appointed Mayor of theSouth East District replacingMaliki Osman who was promoted as full-time minister.[10][11]
Fahmi was appointed as Marine Parade Town Council (MPTC) Vice-Chairperson since 2015.[citation needed]
Fahmi, as an MP also working for NTUC, is a labour MP as defined by the Singaporean media.[12] In October 2024,ChannelNewsAsia noted that none of the labour MPs filed any questions or spoke during the parliamentary debate concerning the controversial deal to sell a controlling 51% stake inNTUC Enterprise subsidiaryIncome Insurance toAllianz.[13]
Prior to the2025 general election, Fahmi retired from politics on 20 April 2025.[14][15] He also stepped down as Mayor of theSouth East Community Development Council on 23 May.[16]
Fahmi is married and has four children.
