Fady Elsayed (born 15 September 1993) is a British actor. He is known for his roles in theDoctor Who spin-offClass (2016) and theSky Atlantic seriesGangs of London (2022). His films includeMy Brother the Devil (2012) andSixteen (2013).
Elsayed was born on 15 September 1993 atSt Mary's Hospital inLondon. At 16 years old, Elsayed joined the drama school The Young Actors Theatre in Islington.[1] He is ofEgyptian heritage.[2]
In 2012, after getting his first lead role inMy Brother the Devil, Elsayed fell in love with acting and knew he wanted to be an actor for the rest of his life.[1] For his role as Mo inMy Brother the Devil he was nominated with theBest Newcomer Award at theBFI London Film Festival.[3] He also received a nomination for theALFS Award asYoung British Performer of the Year.[4] After this Elsayed appeared in several TV series, likeCasualty andSilent Witness.[5]
In 2014, he portrayed a vampire who spoke Arabic inPenny Dreadful.[6]
In 2016, Elsayed was cast in theBBC ThreeDoctor Who spin-offClass as Ram Singh. Elsayed's character Ram is a student at Coal Hill Academy, who plays in the school's football team.[7] In 2018 Elsayed reprised his role as Ram in six audio plays byBig Finish, and again in 2020.[8][9]
In 2018, he appeared in the filmA Private War alongsideRosamund Pike andJamie Dornan.[10]
In 2020, he appeared in several episodes of theChannel 4 dramaBaghdad Central, and theSky Atlantic dramaLittle Birds.[citation needed]
Elsayed was originally contracted to appear inthe film adaptation ofBlack Adam, but due to theCOVID-19 pandemic he was unable to travel to Atlanta for filming, and his role was recast.[11]
In June 2021, it was announced that he would star in the second series ofGangs of London.[12]
In 2021, Elsayed featured in an advertisement campaign forPUMA's Porsche Legacy collection together withHuda El-Mufti,Tara Emad andAhmed Beshary.[13]
In 2023, Elsayed released his debut EPPromise Land on Bandcamp, with all proceeds going towards medical aid in Palestine.[14][15]
Elsayed is a Muslim.[2] He has three brothers and one sister.[16] He is a childhood friend ofLittle Simz,[17] and has appeared in several of her music videos.
