Facebook Bluetooth Beacon

Not to be confused withFacebook Beacon.

TheFacebook Bluetooth Beacon is a hardwarebeacon released byFacebook in 2015. The beacon uses abluetooth connection to communicate with theFacebook app on the user's smartphone, informing it of the phone's location.[1] The technology allows location-specific advertising to be pushed to the user's Facebook feed.[1]

In June 2015, Facebook gave free beacons to a number of businesses in the United States.[2]
