TheFaaz (Urdu:فاز,lit. 'Victorious') is a family of under-developmentbeyond-visual-range (BVR)air-to-air missiles produced by Pakistani defense conglomerateGIDS.[1] It is intended for use both by air platforms asair-to-air missiles as well as ground-based air defense (GBAD) system units as asurface-to-air missile.[2][3][4]
The design of the Faaz may have been partly inspired by the ChineseSD-10 missile. GIDS locally maintains, manufactures, and owns intellectual property rights of the Faaz missile.[5]
The Faaz was first revealed to the public during theIDEF 2023 defense exhibition inTurkey. Both the air variants and the SAM version were displayed. In 2024, media reports emerged from Turkey andPakistan that both countries were planning to merge missile technology projects. It is expected that the Faaz andGÖKTUĞ missile projects will be merged in the near future.[6]
