F & C Investment Trust,formerlyForeign & Colonial Investment Trust, is a publicly tradedinvestment trust. It is listed on theLondon Stock Exchange and is a constituent of theFTSE 100 Index; it is also listed on theNew Zealand Exchange.[2]
The company was founded byPhilip Rose, who also founded theRoyal Brompton Hospital, in 1868 asThe Foreign & Colonial Government Trust: it was the firstcollective investment scheme in the world[3][4] and specialised in investing inGovernment bonds.[5]
In 1891 it changed its name toThe Foreign & Colonial Investment Trust: it first started investing inequities in 1925.[5]
In 1981, the company launchedGraphite Capital, a leading UKprivate equity firm.[6]
The company shortened its name from The Foreign & Colonial Investment Trust to F & C Investment Trust in 2018.[7]
The company is managed by Paul Niven ofColumbia Threadneedle Investments.[8] The current chair is Beatrice Hollond.[9]
