Experimental data inscience and engineering isdata produced by ameasurement, test method, experimental design orquasi-experimental design. Inclinical research any data produced are the result of a clinical trial. Experimental data may bequalitative orquantitative, each being appropriate for differentinvestigations.

Generally speaking, qualitative data are considered moredescriptive and can besubjective in comparison to having a continuous measurement scale that produces numbers. Whereasquantitative data are gathered in a manner that is normallyexperimentally repeatable, qualitativeinformation is usually more closely related to phenomenalmeaning and is, therefore, subject tointerpretation by individualobservers.

Experimental data can be reproduced by a variety of different investigators andmathematical analysis may be performed on these data.
