Expedition 74 is the 74thlong-duration expedition to theInternational Space Station (ISS). The expedition began with the departure ofSoyuz MS-27 on 9 December 2025 withNASA astronautMichael Fincke taking over the ISS command and is expected to conclude with the undocking ofSoyuz MS-28 on 26 July 2026. It continues the extensive scientific research conducted aboard the ISS, focusing on various fields, including biology, human physiology, physics, and materials science. The crew members also maintain and upgrade the space station systems.

Background, Crew, and Events

[edit]

The expedition commenced with a crew consisting ofNASA astronautsZena Cardman,Michael Fincke, andChristopher Williams,JAXA astronautKimiya Yui, andRoscosmos cosmonautsOleg Platonov,Sergey Kud-Sverchkov, andSergey Mikayev.[1]

The expedition was expected to see two spacewalks. On 8 January 2026, Cardman and Fincke were planned to prepare the 2A power channel for future installation of theiROSA that will provide additional power.[2] However, the spacewalk was cancelled just hours before it was scheduled to begin due to a crewmember "medical situation".[3] On 15 January 2026, two crew members were planned to replace a high-definition camera, install a new navigational aid for visiting spacecraft on theHarmony module’s forward port, and relocate an early ammonia servicer jumper, a flexible hose assembly that connects parts of a fluid system, along with other jumpers on the station’s S6 and S4 truss.[2]

On January 12, Fincke handed over command of the space station to Kud-Sverchkov.Crew-11 departed with Cardman, Fincke, Yui, and Platonov on January 14.[4]

SpaceX Crew-12 arrived at the ISS on February 14, transporting NASA astronautsJessica Meir andJack Hathaway,ESA astronautSophie Adenot, and Roscosmos cosmonautAndrey Fedyaev.
