TheExobasidiomycetes are aclass offungi sometimes associated with the abnormal outgrowths of plant tissues known asgalls. The class includesExobasidium camelliae Shirai, the camellia leaf gall andExobasidium vaccinii Erikss, the leaf and flower gall. There are eightorders in the Exobasidiomycetes, including theCeraceosorales,Doassansiales,Entylomatales,Exobasidiales,Georgefischeriales,Malasseziales,Microstromatales and theTilletiales.[2] Four of the eight orders includesmut fungi. The familiesCeraceosoraceae andMalasseziaceae were formally validated in 2009 for the orders Ceraceosorales and Malasseziales, respectively.[3]
