TheExecutions of Kokkinia[1] (Greek:Μπλόκο της Κοκκινιάς) took place on the August 17, 1944, and was the largestNaziroundup and one of the largest-scalewar crimes perpetrated during theGerman occupation of Greece. The operation was carried out by members of theLuftwaffe andcollaborationistSecurity Battalions, and involved the execution of hundreds of civilians (mostlypartisans), thousands of hostages being sent toconcentration camps, and the burning down of entire house blocks, as well as significant atrocities.[2][3][4][5][6] The massacre was partly in retaliation for the Germans' defeat inBattle of Kokkinia five months before, on 4-8 March 1944.[7] The leaders and members of the Security Battalions involved in the killings were never convicted by the Greek state.
The fascists were naming Kokkinia as "Little Moscow", and were determined our to exterminate us all.
