Theevacuation of Pakistani citizens was acivil-military combined effort byPakistan to extract and evacuateoverseas Pakistanis fromwar-torn areas ofYemen.[1]
According toMinistry of Human Resource Development of Pakistan, there were ~3,000overseas Pakistanis residing inYemen prior to theSaudi Arabian-ledmilitary intervention inYemen.[2] In response to theYemeni crises, thePakistan government authorized thePakistan International Airlines to launch of the special flights foraerial evacuation while thePakistan Navy evacuated the remaining stranded Pakistanis with two frigates.[3]
Besides the evacuation ofoverseas Pakistanis, citizens ofChina and theUnited Kingdom among other countries were also evacuated by Pakistan.[4] Approximately, ~1,800 Pakistan's citizens were extracted from Yemen and safely returned to Pakistan, before the conflict escalated.[5][6]
On 26 March 2015, theSaudi Arabian Ambassador to theUnited States,Adel al-Jubeir, announced theSaudi Arabia and theGulf Cooperation Council launched amilitary operation againstShiiteHouthi rebels inYemen.[7] This was preceded by weeks of turmoil during which the Houthi guerrillas toppled the government ofPresidentAbd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and took over the large parts of the country.[7]
TheForeign Office had earlier instructed the Pakistani community to leaveYemen as the situation on ground could worsen. However, 3000 Pakistani citizens had not heeded the warnings and were trapped in Yemen.[2] Theoverseas Pakistanis began reaching out the country'snews media, notablyGeo News,ARY News, andExpress News, appealing the government for a safe evacuation on 27 March.[8] ThePakistan Embassy inYemen worked towards moving the Pakistani community fromAden toSana'a; around 150 to 200 Pakistani citizens were still reportedly trapped in Aden.[9] ThePakistan Navy deployed the PNS Aslat missile frigate as well as special aerial missions byPIA were flown inYemen. On March 29, 2015, thePIA flights evacuated ~503 Pakistani citizens fromal-Hudaydah toKarachi.[10]

ThePakistan Navy had deployed twoZulfiquar-class frigates for the evacuation: thePNS Shamsheer andPNS Aslat.[19]
