European route E31 is an international Class-Aroad inEurope, part of theUnited NationsE-road network. It has a north–south reference, running fromRotterdam,Netherlands toLudwigshafen,Germany.
Firstly, it leavesRotterdam, where it links to theE19 andE25 roads. It heads roughly east through theNetherlands, passing throughGorinchem (where it connects to theE311), andNijmegen before crossing the border intoGermany.
It passes first throughGoch andKrefeld inNorth Rhine-Westphalia and heads southwards before enteringCologne, where it links with four other E-roads: theE29,E35,E37, andE40. It then continues south, going throughKoblenz (where it connects to theE44), and then on toBingen am Rhein, where it makes its final connection, to theE42. It then reaches its final destination ofHockenheim, where the E31 connects with theE50.
Its total length is 538 km (334 mi).
The route fromParma toLa Spezia in Italy, although identified asE33 in the E-network, is also signposted as E31.
