Eurillas is agenus ofgreenbuls, passerine birds in the bulbulfamilyPycnonotidae.

Taxonomy

[edit]

The genusEurillas was introduced in 1899 by the American ornithologistHarry C. Oberholser with thelittle greenbul as thetype species.[1] The genus name combines theAncient Greekeurus meaning "broad" or "wide" andillas meaning "thrush".[2]

This genus was formerlysynonymized with the genusAndropadus. Amolecular phylogenetic study of thebulbul family published in 2007 found thatAndropadus waspolyphyletic.[3] In the revision to the generic classification five species were moved fromAndropadus to the resurrected genusEurillas.[4]
