Esprì (Valdôtain for "spirit") is apolitical party in theItalian region ofAosta Valley. The party was formed from a split in theMouv' party, due to its impending merger intoValdostan Union.

History

[edit]

The party announced its registration as a political party on September 29, 2022, submitting the proper forms and paperwork.[1] Esprì has been vocally opposed to the "Reunion" project, which is the merger of various autonomist parties into theValdostan Union.[2] The party was founded and led byMauro Caniggia, a former candidate and executive ofMouv' alongsideJean-Claude Daudry,Rossana Scapoli,Émile Gorret andRoberto Luboz as a reformistautonomist party.[1] Caniggia stated he left Mouv' because the rest of the party's leadership wasn't listening to his proposals, and because he was "saddened" with the direction the party was going, and claiming the rhetoric of the party was too heightened.[3][4]

The stated goals of the party is to promoteindividualism, social liberalism, with a focus on increasing housing and the standard of living in the Aosta Valley.[5] The party ispro-European, and supports Aosta Valley being given its own seat in theEuropean Parliament instead of competing in theNorth-West constituency.[2][6]

Esprì supported the candidacy ofGiovanni Girardini and have cooperated with hisValdostan Renaissance during the2022 elections.[1] The party was founded as the other mainstream autonomist parties where joining into theAosta Valley coalition.[7] The party described themselves as "moderates" with a "moderate approach."[8] It supports the Autonomists of the Centre coalition in the2025 regional election.[9]

The party's youth organization,Esprì Jeunes (French for "young") held its first rally on October 14, 2023.[5]
