Eroni Cama Talemaisolomoni Mawi (born 6 February 1996)[1] is aFijian professionalrugby union player, who currently plays forSaracens in England'sPremiership Rugby, and theFijian national team. He previously representedFijian Latui inGlobal Rapid Rugby andFijian Drua in Australia'sNational Rugby Championship. His primary position isloosehead prop.

Club career

Mawi started his career with the amateur team Naitasiri,[2] playing in the Fijian national championship.[3]

In 2017, Mawi joined the newFijian Drua team, which competed in the AustralianNational Rugby Championship.[4] For his first professional season, he played in nine matches. The following season, he helped the Drua to clinch the NRC title,[5] featuring in the team's victory in the final againstQueensland Country.[6]

In 2019, Mawi joined theFijian Latui, which had been integrated into the newly createdGlobal Rapid Rugby competition.[1]

Saracens

In February 2020, Mawi was recruited by theEnglish Premiership club Saracens, initially on a short-term deal, to replace the injured loosehead propRalph Adams-Hale.[7] After this stint, he was retained in theLondon club's squad for the 2020–21 season.[8]

During the2021–22 Premiership season, Mawi extended his stay with Saracens up to 2024.[9] He played in 17 league matches during the team's run to the Premiership final, which they lost toLeicester Tigers.[10]

Mawi helped Saracens to win the2022–23 Premiership title, making 18 appearances throughout the season, including a start in the final, where the team defeatedSale Sharks by a score of 35–25.[11] The following year, he signed a new long-term contract with Saracens, keeping him at the club until 2027.[12]

International career

Mawi played for theFiji U20 team in 2015 and 2016, competing in theWorld Rugby U20 Championship during both years. In 2017, he was selected by theFiji Warriors, to play in theWorld Rugby Pacific Challenge.[1]

Mawi received his first senior call-up to representFiji in June 2018, ahead of the2018 Pacific Nations Cup.[13] He earned his first international cap on 9 June, during a match againstSamoa inSuva.[14]

In August 2019, Mawi was named inFiji's squad for the2019 Rugby World Cup inJapan.[15][16] He made three appearances during the competition.[1]

In August 2023, Mawi was selected inFiji's 33-man squad for the2023 Rugby World Cup inFrance.[17] He started all five of the team's matches,[1] as they reached the tournament'sknockout stage for the first time since 2007.[18]
