TheEritrean Catholic Eparchy of Barentu (Latin:Eparchia Barentuanus) is aCatholiceparchy located in the town ofBarentu inEritrea. It is a part of theecclesiastical province ofAsmara.
On 21 December 1995,Pope John Paul II established the Eparchy of Barentu from theEparchy of Asmara and it became asuffragan of theEthiopian Catholic Archeparchy of Addis Abeba.[1][2] With the establishment of the autonomoussui iuris Eritrean Catholic Church byPope Francis in January 2015, the Eparchy of Barentu became a suffragan theEritrean Catholic Archeparchy of Asmara.[3]
