Erik LaRay Harvey is an American actor known for his roles as Dunn Purnsley inBoardwalk Empire,[1]Willis Stryker / Diamondback inLuke Cage, and his role inThe Charnel House (2016).[2]
Harvey was born inWashington, D.C.[3] In his youth, he aspired to be a dentist, but was drawn into acting when he saw a theatrical performance ofThe Wiz.[4] Harvey graduated from theTisch School of the Arts atNew York University in 1991.[5]
Harvey has performed in feature films, television series, and TV movies. Early TV roles include two episodes ofLaw & Order (1994 and 1998); two episodes ofNYPD Blue (1997 and 2003);Now and Again; andThird Watch.[6] He appears in two additionalLaw & Order series:Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (two episodes; 2003 and 2013) andLaw & Order: Criminal Intent (one episode; 2005).[6] Roles in feature films includeTwister,The Caveman's Valentine andRounders.[6]
His two major roles have been on the HBO seriesBoardwalk Empire as Dunn Purnsley (2011–2013)[4] and the Netflix seriesLuke Cage as Willis "Diamondback" Stryker.[6][7]
