Eric Harry Timothy Mabius (born April 22, 1971) is an American actor. Born inHarrisburg, Pennsylvania, he graduated fromSarah Lawrence College inBronxville, New York, with a degree incinema studies. After working in theater productions, Mabius made his film debut in the 1995 independent dark comedyWelcome to the Dollhouse.
Mabius gained widespread recognition for his role asDaniel Meade on theABC comedy-drama seriesUgly Betty. He also appeared on theShowtime seriesThe L Word and in the filmsCruel Intentions,The Crow: Salvation, andResident Evil. Since 2013, Mabius has starred in the long-runningHallmark Channel seriesSigned, Sealed, Delivered.
Mabius was born inHarrisburg, Pennsylvania, the son of Elizabeth (née Dziczek) and Craig Mabius.[1] His father worked as a historian preserving theHistoric Allaire Village.[2] He has a brother, Craig.[3] Mabius isCatholic.[4][5] After attendingAmherst Regional High School inAmherst, Massachusetts, where he was voted "Most Dramatic Guy" as a senior, he enrolled inSarah Lawrence College inYonkers, New York, where he pursued his education infilm theory.
Mabius wed Ivy Sherman, an interior designer, in January 2006; the two first met in high school during a health education class.[6] They divorced in 2018.
Mabius was arrested inNassau County, Florida, on February 20, 2025, and charged with battery and resisting law enforcement without violence.[7][8] All charges were dropped.[9][10]
Mabius began his career with roles inWelcome to the Dollhouse (1995),I Shot Andy Warhol (1996), andBlack Circle Boys (1997). He was involved withThe Crowsuperhero franchise on more than one occasion: he auditioned for a role as one of Top Dollar's henchmen in the 1994 originalThe Crow and playedAlex Corvis inThe Crow: Salvation (2000), the third installment, oppositeKirsten Dunst. He was inCruel Intentions (1999) alongsideSarah Michelle Gellar andRyan Phillippe. He also played an activist namedMatt Addison in 2002'sResident Evil.
In television, Mabius has appeared onChicago Hope,Millennium,Popular,The O.C., and the short-lived seriesEyes (2005). He was a regular cast member ofThe L Word in its first season and returned for one episode in each of the second, third, and sixth seasons, portrayingTim Haspel. He also guest-starred on an episode ofCSI: Miami. From 2006 to 2010, he starred as fashion magazine editorDaniel Meade on theABC dramedy seriesUgly Betty. After the success ofUgly Betty, he was included onPeople magazine's "Sexiest Men Alive" list in 2006.[11] Mabius also appeared in the 2006Lifetime original filmA Christmas Wedding, and had a leading role in the 2011 British science-fiction drama seriesOutcasts.[12]
In 2013, Mabius guest-starred in a season 2 episode ofScandal.[13] The same year he was cast as the lead inHallmark Channel'sSigned, Sealed, Delivered film series.[14]
Mabius competed as aluger in the late 1980s and was named an honorary captain for theUS luge team for the2010 Winter Olympics along withastronautScott Parazynski.[15]
