Eranad Taluk comes underPerinthalmanna revenue division inMalappuram district ofKerala, India.[1] Itsheadquarters is the city ofManjeri.[1] Eranad Taluk contains two municipalities -Manjeri andMalappuram.[1] Most of the administrative offices are located in the Civil Station atMalappuram and the Mini-Civil Station atManjeri.[1]
Eranad was the largest taluk in the erstwhileMalabar District in terms of area.[2] After the formation ofKerala state, it continued to be largest taluk in the state, until the formation ofNilambur Taluk in 1990s. At that time the taluk had 6Revenue blocks in it:Malappuram,Manjeri,Kondotty,Wandoor,Vengara, andTirurangadi.[2][3] On 1 November 1957, theRevenue blocks ofVengara, andTirurangadi, were added to the newly formedTirur Taluk.[3] In the 1990s a major portion of Wandoor Revenue Block was separated to formNilambur Taluk.[4] In 2013,Kondotty Taluk was formed by taking some villages from Eranad Taluk.[5]
Now, Eranad Taluk has 23 villages.
