Epsom Wells is a 1672restoration comedy by the English writerThomas Shadwell. It was the first in a line of plays set inspa towns.[1] Theincidental music was composed byNicholas Staggins. In the 1690sHenry Purcell scored a new staging of the play. It was performed at theDorset Garden Theatre by theDuke's Company. The cast includedHenry Harris as Rains,Thomas Betterton as Bevil,William Smith as Woodly,Cave Underhill as Justice Clodpate,Anne Gibbs as Lucia,Mary Betterton as Mrs Jilt,James Nokes as Bisket andEdward Angel as Fribble.[2]
It continued to be revived well into the eighteenth century.
