Episkopi (Greek:Επισκοπή,Turkish:Piskobu) is a village lying partly in theLimassol district ofCyprus and partly in theBritish Overseas Territory ofAkrotiri and Dhekelia. It is approximately 14 km (9 mi) west ofLimassol and 40 km (25 mi) east ofPaphos. Episkopi is built on the hill of ancientKourion, close to the western bank of theKouris River.

In the medievalKingdom of Cyprus, Episkopi was granted infief to theHouse of Ibelin. It was in the hands ofFederico Cornaro of theRepublic of Venice from 1367 and granted to him in 1374 by the indebted king.[3] It was known asLa Piscopia da Cornaro, and the branch of theCornaro family descended from Federico became known asCornaro Piscopia.[4] The Cornaros ran a largesugar plantation in their fief near Episkopi that employedslaves of Syrian or Arab origin or localserfs.[5]
