Eopululo is the oldest known genus ofNew World porcupines (Erethizontidae). It is known only from the possibly lateLate Eocene toEarly Oligocene (Divisaderan toDeseadan in theSALMA classification) of theYahuarango Formation at theSanta Rosa local fauna site ofUcayali Department, eastern Peru.[1] There is only one species in the genus,Eopululo wigmorei. It was described in 2004,[2] and it is a member of one of the oldest rodent faunas known from South America.[3]
