Enrico Castellani (4 August 1930 – 1 December 2017) was an Italian artist. He was active in Italy from the early 1960s, and associated withPiero Manzoni andVincenzo Agnetti.[1][2][3] From 1959 he made monochromatic geometricreliefs using nails from anail-gun to distort his canvases.[4]
In 2010 he received thePraemium Imperiale for painting.[5]
Castellani was born on 4 August 1930 inCastelmassa in theprovince of Rovigo, in theVeneto. He studied in Brussels, firstsculpture and painting at theAcadémie Royale des Beaux-Arts, and then architecture at theÉcole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de La Cambre. He then went to live inMilan.[4] Castellani collaborated with artists such asGetulio Alviani,Piero Manzoni, and others.
He died on 1 December 2017 at his home, the Castello Orsini ofCelleno, in theprovince ofViterbo inLazio.[6][4]
