English Journal (previouslyThe English Journal) is the official publication of theSecondary Education section of the AmericanNational Council of Teachers of English. Thepeer-reviewed journal has been published since 1912 and features columns and articles on all aspects of the teaching of English language arts at middle schools and junior and senior high schools.
In 1939, the journalCollege English was spun off fromThe English Journal to address the needs of teaching English language arts at the college level.
As of 2018[update], the journal's editors are Toby Emert, Ph.D., ofAgnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia, and R. Joseph Rodríguez, Ph.D., ofCalifornia State University, Fresno. Its content is accessible electronically viaERIC,ProQuest, andJSTOR, and is indexed by theMLA.
Regular features include articles onpedagogy,literature,ELL issues, andeducational technology.[1]
The journal also accepts poetry submissions.
