TheEncyclopedia of the Holocaust (1990) has been described as "the most recognizedreference book on the Holocaust".[1] It was published in anEnglish-language translated edition byMacmillan in tandem with theHebrew language original edition published byYad Vashem (יד ושם), theHolocaust Remembrance Authority inIsrael.
All of its contributors are reputable Holocaust scholars and academics.[1] While the encyclopedia is accessible, easy to navigate, and contains no graphic images, it is not recommended for readers below high school age due to the seriousness and complexity of its subject matter.
TheEncyclopedia was the winner of the 1991American Library Association’s Dartmouth Medal.[2]
