TheEmu River is aperennial river for most of its length, located in thenorth-western region ofTasmania, Australia.[2] It was named byHenry Hellyer, an early explorer who sawemu tracks in the vicinity.[1]
The river rises below Companion Hill (853 m (2,799 ft))[note 1] near Saint Valentines Peak (1,107 m (3,632 ft)),[note 2] passes through Companion Reservoir,[note 3] and flows generally north intoEmu Bay atWivenhoe.[1] The river descends 548 metres (1,798 ft) over its 52.2-kilometre (32.4 mi)course.[3]
