Emmabuntüs is aLinux distribution derived fromDebian (previouslyUbuntu ) and designed to facilitate the restoration ofcomputers donated to humanitarian organizations[ 6] Emmaüs Communities.[ 7] [ 8] [ 9] [ 10] [ 11]
The nameEmmabuntüs is aportmanteau ofEmmaüs andUbuntu .
ThisLinux distribution can beinstalled , in its entirety, without anInternet connection as all of the required packages are included within thedisk image . The disk image includes packages for multiple languages and also optional non-freecodecs that the user can choose whether to install or not.[ 12] Emmabuntüs says one gigabyte ofRAM is required for the distribution's supported releases.[ 13] An installationscript automatically performs some installation steps (user name, password predefined). The script allows the client user to choose whether or not to installnon-free software and whether or not to uninstall unused languages to savedisk space .[ 14] Emmabuntüs includes browserplug-ins fordata privacy .[ 15] There are threedock types to choose from to simplify access to thesoftware and are defined by the type of user (children, beginners and "all").[ 16] Desktop environment [ edit ] Thedesktop environment isXfce with Cairo-Dock.LXQt is also included.[ 17]
