Emma-Louise Corrin [ 2] (born 13 December 1995) is an English actor. They[ a] portrayedDiana, Princess of Wales , in thefourth season of theNetflix historical dramaThe Crown (2020), for which they won aGolden Globe and were nominated for aPrimetime Emmy Award . They subsequently starred in the 2022 romantic drama filmsMy Policeman andLady Chatterley's Lover and in the 2023 thriller miniseriesA Murder at the End of the World . In 2024, they playedCassandra Nova in the superhero filmDeadpool & Wolverine and featured in the horror filmNosferatu .
Early life Emma-Louise Corrin was born on 13 December 1995 inRoyal Tunbridge Wells , Kent.[ 3] They have two younger brothers, Richard and Jonty.[ 4] Their father, Chris Corrin, is a businessman and their mother, Juliette Corrin, is aspeech therapist fromSouth Africa . Their family is based inSeal, Kent , nearSevenoaks .[ 5]
Corrin attended the Roman CatholicWoldingham School inSurrey , an all-girls boarding school where they developed an interest in acting and singing.[ 4] [ 6] They took a gap year, during which time they took aShakespeare course at theLondon Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and volunteered as a teacher at a school inKnysna , South Africa. They studied drama at theUniversity of Bristol , but left to study Education, English, Drama and the Arts atSt John's College, Cambridge from 2015 to 2018.[ 3] [ 7] [ 8]
Career Corrin made their television debut in 2019 with a guest appearance in an episode of theITV detective dramaGrantchester and a recurring role as Esme Winikus in the first season of theEpix DC seriesPennyworth . This was followed by their feature film debut as Jillian Jessup inMisbehaviour .
Corrin was cast asDiana, Princess of Wales inSeason 4 of theNetflix historical drama seriesThe Crown , which was released in November 2020.[ 9] Corrin's performance received universal acclaim and earned them theGolden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Drama and theCritics' Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series , in addition to nominations for thePrimetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and theScreen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series .[ 10] They were also a part of the ensemble cast that won theScreen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series . They have also featured on six tracks onLittle Simz 's 2021 albumSometimes I Might Be Introvert .[ 11]
Corrin was nominated for aLaurence Olivier Award for Best Actress for their 2021West End debut inAnna X at theHarold Pinter Theatre . Corrin starred in the 2022 filmsMy Policeman andLady Chatterley's Lover . They starred in the title role ofOrlando at theWest End 'sGarrick Theatre , and received good reviews for their performance.[ 12] [ 13]
In 2022, Corrin becameVogue magazine's first non-binary cover star.[ 14] The following year, they made their runway debut atParis Fashion Week forMiu Miu .[ 15] Corrin starred asCassandra Nova inDeadpool & Wolverine (2024), set in theMarvel Cinematic Universe .[ 16]
Personal life Corrincame out asqueer in April 2021,[ 17] and by July, they had addedshe /they pronouns to theirInstagram account.[ 18] [ 19] That August, they spoke about being queer andnon-binary in an interview withThe New York Times 's Trisha Bendix, creditingDiana, Princess of Wales (whom they portray inThe Crown ) for facilitating their "journey" regarding theirgender identity by being "so openhearted" and supportive of theLGBTQ community during her lifetime.[ 20] In another interview withITV Granada 's Victoria Grimes published the same day, they said that "visibility is key" when it comes to LGBTQ issues and that their personal "journey has been a long one and has still got a long way to go".[ 21] As of July 2022[update] , Corrin usesthey/them pronouns exclusively.[ 22] [ 23]
Corrin was in a relationship with actorRami Malek between 2023 and 2025.[ 24] [ 25] [ 26]
