Emir Preldžić (born 6 September 1987) is a Bosnian-Turkish professionalbasketball player for KK Orlovik Žepče of theBasketball Championship of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also represented theTurkish national basketball team. He is 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) tall and he mainly plays thesmall forward position, but he also has the ability to play as apower forward,shooting guard andpoint guard.
Preldžić began his career playing with Čelik Zenica youth teams in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He made his pro debut withČelik Zenica in theBosnia and Herzegovina League during the 2003–04 season. In the 2004–05 season he played with Triglav Kranj. He then moved to theAdriatic League clubGeoplin Slovan for the 2005–06 season.
In 2007, he signed a four-year contract with the TurkishEuroLeague teamFenerbahçe Ülker.[1]
On 27 January 2011, in theEuroLeague match againstPower Electronics Valencia, he double blockedRafa Martínez in only one second.[2] He played with 10 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks performance in a victory againstPower Electronics Valencia.
On 13 February 2011, inTurkish Cup final match againstBeşiktaş Cola Turka, he played with 35 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists asMVP performance.[3]
On 28 February 2011, the official page of the team declared that he had signed a three-year contract with the team.[4]
On 20 March 2011, he played with 10 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assist performance againstOlin Edirne which he did his firsttriple double in the team.[5] This triple double is second inTurkish Basketball League history afterMark Dickel played with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists performance againstGalatasaray in the 2002–03 season.[6]
On 11 October 2012, his stat line was 20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals in a performance againstBC Khimki in2012–13 Euroleague first week match which made himEuroleague Weekly MVP by 31 ratings.[7]
On 25 August 2015 Preldžić signed withDarüşşafaka.[8]
On 9 September 2016 Preldžić signed a two-year deal withGalatasaray.[9]
In the2009 NBA draft, Preldžić was selected by thePhoenix Suns in the second round, with the 57th draft pick. His draft rights were then traded to theCleveland Cavaliers,[10] and later to theWashington Wizards in a February 2010 trade that sentAntawn Jamison from Washington to Cleveland.[11] On 17 July 2014 theDallas Mavericks acquired Preldžić's rights from the Wizards in a sign-and-trade deal forDeJuan Blair.[12][13] On 8 July 2016 the rights to Preldžić, along withJeremy Evans, were traded to theIndiana Pacers in exchange for the rights toStanko Barać.[14] On 14 July 2017 the rights to Preldžić were traded to theToronto Raptors in exchange forCory Joseph.[15] On 6 February 2019 his rights were again traded, this time to thePhiladelphia 76ers.[16] On 25 March 2021 his rights were traded to theNew York Knicks.[17]

Preldžić was a member of theSlovenian national basketball team and he competed for Slovenia at the2008 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, since he acquired Slovenian citizenship as a member of theBosniak community inSlovenia.
Through 2011, the Bosnian media speculated that Preldžić may play for theBosnian national basketball team because of his birthplaceZenica, city in modernBosnia and Herzegovina.[18] However, on 6 July 2011 theTurkish Basketball Federation announced Preldžić's name in its official nominated squad for theEuroBasket 2011 held in Lithuania.[19] Preldžić decided to change national team using the FIBA regulation on Eligibility and National Status of Players (Chapter I.22).[20]
He was later selected to theTurkish national team'sEuroBasket 2011 roster by head coachOrhun Ene.[21] On 5 September 2011 inEuroBasket 2011 group match againstSpain, he played with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal performance in a victory.[22] Over the tournament, he averaged 10.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
He was once again called to play for the national team at theEuroBasket 2013 in Slovenia.[23] He averaged 8.8 points, and 3.8 rebounds and assists over 5 tournament games.[24]
