Previous owners of theBeaux-Arts building includeC. Peyton Russell (original owner; 1908–1915), politicianJames D. Phelan (residence while serving in the United States Senate; 1915–1921) and the government ofSweden (embassy; 1921–1971). The 2009 property value of the Kenyan embassy is $6,554,280 ($6,133,120 – main building; $421,160 – side building).
