Eltham and Chislehurst is aconstituency of theHouse of Commons in theUK Parliament.[2] It was first contested at the2024 general election and is currently represented byClive Efford of theLabour Party.
Eltham and Chislehurst is asuburban constituency located in thesouth ofLondon. It covers the neighbourhoods ofEltham,Chislehurst,Mottingham and parts ofBlackheath. The area was rural before being developed in theinterwar period. There is some deprivation in Eltham, whilst Chislehurst is affluent and falls within the 10% least-deprived areas inEngland.[3] House prices are below London averages but above nationwide averages.[4]
In general, residents of the constituency have average levels of education and professional employment. Household income is similar to the London average.[4]White people made up 71% of the population at the2021 census.Black people were the largest ethnic minority group at 11% andAsians were 9%.[5] At the local council level, the north of the constituency closer to central London is represented byLabour Party councillors, whilst Chislehurst electedConservatives andindependents. An estimated 51% of voters in the constituency supported leaving theEuropean Union in the2016 referendum, similar to the nationwide figure and a higher rate than the rest of London.[4]
