Elnaaz Norouzi (Persian:الناز نوروزی; born 9 July 1996)[1][2] is an Iranian-German actress who mainly works inBollywood.[3] She is known for playing the role ofZoya Mirza in Indian crime thrillerSacred Games.[4] She made herHollywood debut withGerard Butler inKandahar, a movie byRic Roman Waugh.[5]

Early life and education

Elnaaz Norouzi was born inTehran, Iran. Shortly after her birth, her family moved toHanover, Germany.[6] Norouzi has German citizenship.[7] She started working as an actress when she was fourteen. She went to school, while weekend photoshoots became a daily occurrence for her. She travelled around Asia and Europe until she was 19. Aftergraduating from the Goetheschule in Hanover, she decided to move to India.[8]

Career

She started her career as an actress at the age of 14 in Germany.[9] In 2017, she made her debut in a Pakistani filmMaan Jao Na, playing the role of a young girlRaania.[10] She entered the Indian film industry by playing the role ofZoya inNetflix Bollywood web seriesSacred Games.[11] Later, Norouzi worked in many movies and series, includingHello Charlie,Chutzpah,Tehran 2,Abhay,Khido Khundi andMade in Heaven.[12][13] She performed a dance number inRashtra Kavach Om andJugJugg Jeeyo, produced byKaran Johar.[14] In July 2022, she made her singing debut with 'La La Love'.[15] She marks special appearance in the Marathi song "Hridayi Vasant Phultana", anitem number from the Malind Kavde's directorial 2022 filmTakatak 2.[16]

Personal life

Elnaaz Norouzi was born in Iran.[17] Her family shifted to Germany, where she grew up and spent her teenage years.[18] In 2015, she found a new home in India.[19] Norouzi can speakEnglish,German,French,Persian,Hindi, Punjabi andUrdu, which has helped her to act in various film industries.[20]

In 2018, she accused directorVipul Shah for sexual harassment.[21][22]

During theMahsa Amini protests in 2022, Norouzi came in support of the protests against the forced head covering.[23] To support theWoman, Life, Freedom movement, which denounced the Government of Iran and the morality police, Norouzi posted a video of herself stripping down to being topless.[24]
