Eliza Blyth (1820 – 27 March 1894) was an Australianbotanical illustrator,landscape painter anddrawing teacher.
Eliza Blyth was born inEssex, England in 1820. Her mother, Elizabeth Crowther, was a sketcher.[1] Blyth had 18 siblings, some of whom moved to Tasmania before her.[2]
In 1848 she migrated to Tasmania on theHimalaya.[3] Also on board wasFrancis Nixon, the first Anglican bishop in Tasmania.[4] He was a watercolour painter and helped her develop her artistic technique.[2]
Blyth suffered from chronicrheumatism and exhaustion and died on 27 March 1894 atSorell, Tasmania.[5]
