Edward Owen (6 November 1886 – 24 September 1949) was a Britishathlete who competed mainly inlong-distance races.[1]
Owen competed for Great Britain in the1908 Summer Olympics, held in London,[2] in the5 miles race, where he won the silver medal.[3] In the1912 Summer Olympics he was able to win the bronze medal in the3000 m team event.
Born inManchester, he ran forSalford Harriers andManchester Athletic Club during his career. He twice won at theAAA Championships at the1909 AAA Championships[4][5] and1912 AAA Championships.[6][7]
He served with theIrish Guards regiment duringWorld War I. After working atBelle Vue Stadium, he went on to manageCrayford & Bexleyheath Stadium (another greyhound track) inBexley. He died inWoolwich.
