Edward Lucas (born 3 May 1962) is a British writer, journalist, security specialist and politician.

Career

Lucas is non-resident Senior Fellow at theCenter for European Policy Analysis.[1] Until 2018, he was a senior editor atThe Economist. Before moving to The Economist, he edited Business Russia and Business Eastern Europe for the EIU in Vienna, was a Foreign Correspondent for The Independent newspaper, and produced Newshour for theBBC World Service.[2] He writes a column forThe Times[3] and occasionally writes for theDaily Mail.[4] He has editedStandpoint magazine.[5]

In September 2021, he was selected as theLiberal Democratprospective parliamentary candidate for the constituency ofCities of London and Westminster in the2024 general election.[6] Lucas came third with 4,335 votes.[7]

Personal life

Lucas's second wife is the columnistCristina Odone, with whom he has one child; he had two children with his first wife Claudia, who is German.[8] He lives in London. His father was theOxford philosopherJohn Lucas.

On 1 December 2014, he became the firste-resident ofEstonia.[9]
