ColonelSir Edward Thomas BolithoKCVO OBE CStJ (born 30 December 1955) is a formerBritish Army officer, who has served asLord Lieutenant of Cornwall since 2011.
Bolitho was born into aCornishgentry family atPenzance,Cornwall, the elder son of Major Simon EdwardBolitho,MC, High Sheriff of Cornwall (1956–57), and grandson ofSir Edward Bolitho, Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall (1936–62).
AfterEton, he went up toPembroke College, Cambridge, but returned to Cornwall in 1998 after serving in theBritish Army. In 1979, Bolitho married Alexandra, younger daughter ofSirMorgan Morgan-Giles, and the couple have three children, twin daughters and a son; all are enthusiasticCornish Pirates supporters.[1][2]
Bolitho joined theGrenadier Guards in 1978, serving with the regiment for 20 years. He commanded the 1stBattalion between 1993 and 1995, being appointedOBE.[1]

On returning to Cornwall, Bolitho took over the management of Bolitho Estates, a family-owned business which develops, renovates, and leases out farms, houses, and commercial properties. It also manages some leisure activities, including Trewidden,Trengwainton Garden (in partnership with theNational Trust) and holiday properties, being closely involved in conservation matters. Bolitho is also Chairman of the South West Region committee of theCountry Land and Business Association (CLA) and plays a part in other local activities, including thePenzanceSea Cadets, the Penwith Farming Forum, as well as theRoyal Cornwall Show.[1][3]
Bolitho served asHigh Sheriff of Cornwall from March 2011 until March 2012, and jointly from September 2012 asLord Lieutenant of Cornwall, succeedingLady Mary Holborow, having served as aDeputy Lieutenant (2008–11).[2][4] He has been Chairman of the Association of Lord-Lieutenants since 2018.[5]
Admitted as aFreeman of the City of London and then aLiveryman of theGoldsmiths' Company, Bolitho is also a member ofHM Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms, and in 2018 became aCommander of the Order of St John (CStJ).[6][7] Bolitho was appointedKnight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) in the2024 New Year Honours.[8]
He is the President of theCornwall Heritage Trust.[9]
