Edward Monroe Hill (born inHanford, California) is an Americancountry music songwriter. Hill has been active since the early 1970s. Hill plays piano and keyboard and has backedMerle Haggard andKris Kristofferson.[1][2][3]Hill joined thePalomino Club's house band, the Palomino Riders, in the late 1970s, and backed artists likeMarty Robbins andWillie Nelson.[1][2][4]In 1980, he joined theGilley's Urban Cowboy Band and won aGrammy Award for Best Country Instrumental Performance for "Orange Blossom Special/Hoedown".[2][5]

In 1980 and 1982, he was nominated for anAcademy of Country Music Award in the piano player category.[1]

In late 1987, he joined New Haven Music which was sold toBMG in 1997.[1][2]

He has won fourNashville Songwriters Association International Awards for "Songs I Wish Had Written". They include:It Matters To Me byFaith Hill,Georgia Rain byTrisha Yearwood,Find Out Who Your Friends Are byTracy Lawrence andJust Fishin' byTrace Adkins.[1][2][3][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]

In 2012, Hill was nominated for aGrammy Award in theBest Country Song category forJust Fishin' written withCasey Beathard and Monty Criswell.[10][14]
