Ebrachosuchus is anextinctgenus ofbasalphytosaur known from theLate Triassic (lateCarnian stage) ofBavaria, southernGermany. It is known only from theholotype BSPG 1931 X 501, a completeskull missing bothmandibles. It was collected at Ebrach Quarry, bed number 9 from the late Carnian-agedBlasensandstein Member of theHassberge Formation. It was first named byOskar Kuhn in1936 and thetype species isEbrachosuchus neukami.[1]

Hunt and Lucas (1991) mistakenly referred toFrancosuchus angustifrons asEbrachosuchus angustifrons, and considered it and the other twoFrancosuchus species,F. broilii andF. latus, to besynonyms ofE. neukami. Furthermore, they reassigned the species toPaleorhinus, andsynonymizedEbrachosuchus with the former.[2] Subsequent researches accepted this referral. More recently, a phylogenetic analysis foundE. neukami to be more closely related toMystriosuchinae than toPaleorhinus and thus the genusEbrachosuchus was re-validated, whileF. angustifrons was reassigned asP. angustifrons as it shares unique synapomorphies with the type species ofPaleorhinus (P. bransoni) and was found to be itssister taxon.F. broilii andF. latus were also removed fromE. neukami, as they were found to benomina dubia.[3]
