East Tennessee Blues is anAmerican old-time fiddle song, which dates back to the early 20th century.[1]
Written byCharlie Bowman (born inGray Station, inEast Tennessee), it was first recorded byAl Hopkins, (aka The Hill Billies) in 1926.[2] Well-knownbluegrass artists, such asBill Monroe,Doc Watson,[3] andTommy Jackson have released versions of the song.[4] A mainstay of bluegrass music, the song continues to be performed by singers such asSierra Hull[5] and theSteep Canyon Rangers,[6] as well as theEast Tennessee State University Bluegrass Pride Band.[7][8]
