
TheEast Side of Manhattan refers to the side ofManhattan which abuts theEast River, and facesBrooklyn andQueens, all inNew York City.Fifth Avenue,Central Park from59th to110th streets, andBroadway below8th Street separate it from theWest Side.
The majorneighborhoods on the East Side include (from north to south)East Harlem,[1]Yorkville,[2] theUpper East Side,Turtle Bay,Murray Hill,Kips Bay,Gramercy,East Village, and theLower East Side. The main north-south expressways servicing the East Side are theFranklin D. Roosevelt East River Drive andHarlem River Drive, which, for the majority of their length, are separated from the east shore of the island by theManhattan Waterfront Greenway. The East Side is served by theIRT East Side Line subway, and by many bus lines.[3]
