East Cove National Wildlife Refuge is located south ofLake Charles, Louisiana along the southeast shore ofCalcasieu Lake inCameron Parish. It is accessible only by boat.
It is managed by theCameron Prairie National Wildlife Refuge office as part of theSouthwest Louisiana National Wildlife Refuge Complex.
The habitat is anestuarine marsh in the heart of theCameron Creole Watershed.
Nineteen miles of lake shore levee and five water control structures are used to control water and salinity levels in this wetland.
Abundant fishery resources such asfish,shrimp, andcrabs as well asmigratory birds andalligators are found in the area.
