The titleEarl of Montgomery (pronounced "Mun-gum-ery") was created in thePeerage of England in 1605 forSir Philip Herbert, younger son of the2nd Earl of Pembroke. The first Earl inherited theEarldom of Pembroke in 1630 from his brother, the3rd Earl, and the two titles remain united.[2]

Theheir apparent is the present holder's son Reginald Henry Michael Herbert, Lord Herbert (b. 2012).
