EViews is astatistical package forWindows and MacOS, used mainly for time-series orientedeconometric analysis.[1] It is developed by Quantitative Micro Software (QMS), now a part ofIHS. Version 1.0 was released in March 1994, and replaced MicroTSP.[2] TheTSP software and programming language had been originally developed byRobert Hall in 1965. The current version of EViews is 14, released in June 2024.
EViews can be used for general statistical analysis and econometric analyses, such as cross-section and panel data analysis andtime series estimation and forecasting.[3]
EViews combinesspreadsheet and relational database technology with the traditional tasks found in statistical software, and uses a WindowsGUI. This is combined with aprogramming language which displays limitedobject orientation.
EViews allows access to 3rd party time series data from multiple providers including:[4] Thomson Reuters Datastream, Moody's Economy.com, Macrobond Financial,[5] Haver Analytics,[6] and CEIC.
EViews relies heavily on a proprietary and undocumented file format for data storage. However, for input and output it supports numerous formats, includingdatabank format,Excel formats,PSPP/SPSS,DAP/SAS,Stata,RATS, and TSP. EViews can accessODBC databases. EViews file formats can be partially opened bygretl.
EViews helps researchers detect unit roots in their data series. Multipleunit root tests are available in the research software, includingDickey–Fuller,Phillips–Perron,Kwiatkowski–Phillips–Schmidt–Shin andElliott, Rothenberg and Stock Point-Optimal tests.
EViews helps researchers and professionals to estimatelinear equations andsystems of linear equations models oftime series andpanel data with various methods. Eviews allows the user to assess econometric results easily.[7]
