Dzhalil (Russian:Джали́ль;Tatar:Җәлил) is anurban locality (anurban-type settlement) inSarmanovsky District of theRepublic of Tatarstan,Russia, located near the source of theMenzelya River, 35 kilometers (22 mi) south ofSarmanovo, theadministrative center of the district. As of the2010 Census, its population was 13,937.[3]

History

It was founded in 1964 and was grantedurban-type settlement status in 1968.[2] It is named after Tatar poetMusa Cälil.

Administrative and municipal status

Within theframework of administrative divisions, theurban-type settlement of Dzhalil is subordinated toSarmanovsky District.[1] As amunicipal division, Dzhalil, together with threerural localities, is incorporated within Sarmanovsky Municipal District asDzhalil Urban Settlement.[4]

Economy and infrastructure

As of 1997, two major industrial enterprises in the settlement were Dzhalilneft oil company and a bakery.[2]
